Searching for "china ai" on hn gives some idea of the lack of diverse subjects and stories from chinese tech. We don't see a lot of headlines about chinese usage of llms and what the major differences are. We're not getting enough stories about how people are thinking about next generation technologies. I just don't see anything about whether llm's are better or worse for chinese speakers or what new tech trends/fads are happening among youth.
China is still far away with a mostly segregated software ecosystem, so why would we hear much about it? I would be interested in hearing how Chinese are leveraging LLMs, especially the more efficient Chinese models coming out of Alibaba, tencent and deepseek, but I’m probably in the minority and news, like HN, mainly serves majority demand.
Just like not knowing english used to cut out many from having their hands on useful info in the last 70-20 years similarly now not knowing Mandarin may keep you back from knowing anything tech advance from an emerging powerhouse.
HN is very much English only, and even then, it is mostly US-centric.
